Composer · Orchestrator
Based in Tennessee. Writing original scores, orchestral works, and arrangements guided by emotion, restraint, and careful listening.
Concert Works
Original orchestral music, written for the page and the hall, and available to orchestras for rental and performance licensing.
A single eight-and-a-half-minute arc for orchestra, moving from stillness toward arrival. The first of a planned orchestral trilogy.
Scoring for Screen
Original scores for film, television, and games.
I write music that serves the story rather than sitting on top of it, working closely with directors, studios, and developers to find the emotional center of a scene and score from there. The aim is always the feeling first, and the craft in service of it.
Selected work
“Musical talent is the baseline. What separates the great from the unforgettable is the human qualities, and that is where Markus stands apart. He is a first call on virtually every project I lead, one of the rare talents who makes every collaboration feel like a partnership.”
Rich Isaac, Creative Director, Noise Distillery
Orchestration & Arranging
Orchestral arrangements, sized and voiced for the song.
I arrange and orchestrate for any ensemble, from a string quartet to a full orchestra with woodwinds, brass, and percussion. Whatever the forces, I shape each part around the emotion of the song rather than sitting over it. The right line in the right place can change what a song means, and that is the part I love most. Recent collaborations include work for Johnnyswim and Natalie Grant.

“His musicianship is outstanding, his knowledge of instrumental writing extensive, and the arrangements spot on perfect. Working with him was as easy as anything gets, and he is a rare gem in the music business.”
Dr. Richard Koshgarian, Music Director, Hutchinson Symphony
Journal
A working composer’s journal on music, process, and the pursuit of emotional truth in sound.
Occasional essays on craft, breakdowns of cues and scores, and notes on what I am learning as I build. Less a feed than a record of the thinking behind the work.

I build instruments, too. Sonuscapes is where the way I listen becomes something other composers can hold.
It begins where the music does. Rather than leading with technical features, every Sonuscapes instrument starts from emotion and atmosphere, made so the first sound you play already feels like the beginning of a story. It is the same sensibility as the rest of my work, shaped into tools that other people can reach for and make their own.
